[Cz-L] Austrian Heritage Collection: Bucovina Heritage

Dear Czernowitzer!

For those who know me: Hello!

For those who do not know me: I am Emil Isaak Rennert, born in Vienna
currently living in New York. My Family is from Czernowitz and from the
southern Bucovina. I produced a documentary about the last shoah survivors
of Radautz wich was in Cinemas all over Austria and also released on
DVD. I also attended the Czernowitzer Reunion this spring in Czernowitz.

I am working for the Leo Baeck Institute were i am responsible for the
"Austrian Heritage Collection" that focuses on the history of
Jewish-Austrian emigrants. The Leo Baeck Institute is a research, study
and lecture center whose library and archives offer the most comprehensive
documentation for the study of the history and culture of German-speaking
Jewry. It is located in the "Center for Jewish History" in New York City.

Now to my request: Because of my own family history i am very interested
in the Bucovina. I would really like to preserve within the Austrian
Heritage Collection also the Bucovina Heritage. Therefore I would like to
send a short questionary (just one page) by mail to people who are
interested to write us something about their time in Czernowitz or the
Bucovina (or Austria ofcourse), their emigration (-route) and other
matters of interest.

We have almost 4000 jewish-austrian immigrants in our database and just 15
of them are from the Bucovina. We also have a second more detailed
questionary wich I would send to those who send us the first one back. But
the maybe most important part of my work here are oral-history interviews
wich I can make here in New York and the surrounding states. I am sorry
that i cant come everywere to make Interviews, but I will be in and
in Israel in 2007 so i can maybe make a few interviews in Israel (and i
also have the plan to travel to Canada...).

In our archives we also keep memories, books, documents, copies of
documents and many other artifacts of interest for researchers about the
austrian heritage.

our project.
