Sorry to disappoint you regarding the author of "Hatikva". His name was
Naftali Hertz Imber, born in 1856 in a small "shtetl" in Galizia (at present
part of Western Ukraine) and not in Moldavia.

Thank you. That is fascinating history. Along the same lines, the lyrics
for Ha Tikvah were written by an immigrant from Moldavia, although the
melody was copied from Smetana's "Moldau".
