Hi Lois:

In the past, you've posted that your family came from "Vilyavche",
also known as Willawcze. This shtetl is due west of Czernowitz,
between Wiznitz and Waschkoutz. So, I'm wondering - just what did
their Ellis Island ship passenger manifest say? Was it Wallachia,
Willawcze, or Vilyavche? I can see how these words can be confused.

Did they belong to a Landsmannschaft or burial society that could be
an indication of their town of origin? Did their application for a
Social Security number give their town of origin? Did their
naturalization papers indicate a town of origin? All of these are
possible alternative sources that could give clues as to where your
family came from.

Good luck,

Bruce
