Since I left Czernowitz 5 days before the volunteers working
on the cemetery, I am not sure, how far they eventually got.
The work was started on area #33, by the time I left, this area
was almost completely cleared and work was started on area 31
and a little bit on area 54.
Area 32 is supposedly maintained by the city, because it contains the graves
of many famous Czernowitzers, it is indeed in a much better state than the
rest.

In areas where there were many young trees, a man hired by the city, cut
them with a chain saw and after a few days a woman (his wife?) joined him
to hold the trees while he was cutting them. The volunteers dragged the
trees away as soon as they were cut. In areas mainly covered with climbing
vines, the volunteers often cut and pulled them out to their source, which
might have strayed into a different area.

When I hear from Jasmin Sohner how far they got, will let you know.
