Great! One more knowledgeable gardener in our midst!
Philip is right about tree removal, stump removal and acceptable levels
of vegetation left to grow. The trees are mostly maples. I do not know how
their root system works, but I know they are spread by seed and it may be
necessary to cut down the mature tree which is the prolific pater familias.
In my opinion we currently do not need a cemetery care fund.
I will write more about this at some other time.
The organizations which were instrumental in bringing the volunteers to
Chernivtsi are SCI Germany and SVIT Ukraine. Please read about these
organizations on the internet. John Myers of SCI and Julia Miyasyshevka of
SVIT Ukraine worked on this project tirelessly and effectively and the
volunteers were an absolutely wonderful group of young people. They worked
hard and enthusiastically, were interested in the traditions and religion as
evidenced from the gravestones and many would like to come back next year.
SCI and SVIT Ukraine deserve our support, both moral and financial,
independently of what they may, or may not do for us next year.
Please anyone, who would have contributed to the clearing of the cemetery,
had contributions been sought, contribute to these two organizations.
Also encourage young people you know, to volunteer for the projects
organized by these two organizations.
