Hi all,
I am new here and this is the first time that I address all of you. And
the reason for that is that I am searching my
family roots and need more information about my mother's family who
lived in Czernowitz druing the period 1900 - 1935(_+)_
Here is attached a picture of my mother's family, taken in 1927 in
Czernowitz. To my mind it shows not only the figures but also some of
the "esprit"
of the time, in particular when one considers fashion to be a cultural
factor.

Let me add a bit about the people: the head of the family - my maternal
grandfather - is Maier-Moritz AUERBACH who was born in 1873 and was a
photographer.
His wife - Channa-Perl (HALM)- who was my grandmother must have been an
angle to take care of all five extremely musical daughters ...
And they were indeed: my mother, Edith, was a violinist who played later
in the Iasi (Romania) orchestra, and her sister Eda who was an
exceptional musician in
the US after she immigrated with her husband, Herman (also in the
picture) in 1927. Stefi, whom I know almost nothing about her because
she died
of tuberculosis at an early age, was a pianist and so another sister -
Frieda-Manon, who lived for many years in Las Vegas, Nevada. And the
younger daughter -
Cilli - was drum player but she also danced wonderfully. She is also
buried in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The family lived on 31 Brauhausgasse st. until (probably) the second
half of the 30' in last century.
I would like to know more about the life of my family in Czernowitz. In
particular I am interested
(1) to get names of schools in Czernowitz during the period of 1918-1928
so that I can brows the lists of names of their pupils, for details
about my mother as a pupil.
(2) I would like to know more about photographers in Czernowitz: were
there professional organizations, or unions of photographers during the
period 1900-1930?
if yes, where can I get lists of members?
(3) Since my family lived on Brauhausgasse st., I would like to know
more about the neighborhood: I tried to locate this street on the maps
of Chernowitz and could
not find the street there - even by relating to its Romanian name and
Russian. Does any of you know where can I have information about the
neighborhood?
(4) Are the people in the picture familiar to any of you?
Thank you in advance for your kind attention to this matter,
Dr. Nurit Ben-Zvi,
Rechovot,
Israel
