To add to what Bruce Reisch wrote:

The Wiznitzer Rabbi and Chassidim, were especially renown for the beautiful
"Negunim" of their prayers and their "Zmirot" ( songs sung after Friday and
Saturday evenings' dinner and on various holydays.

The Wiznitzers were an offshoot of the Kosover Chassidim. Kosov is to the
north-west of Czernowitz, in Galitzia, but close to the region of Maramures.

One set of my great-grand-parents moved to Czernowitz in 1879 - 1880 from
that region. They had been Kosover Chassidim, but in Czernowitz became
Wiznitzer Chassidim. One of their sons moved to Radauti, where he carried on
the Wiznitzer traditions.

The Wiznitzer Chassidim take care of the synagogue in present day Vinitza
and those of us who were at the 2006 reunion in Chernivtsi, met a group of
them, at the Cheremosh hotel. I found a third cousins among them.
