Hello all,

I am well aware that it has been formerly decided not to send any
holiday greetings through the Cz-list.
However, I do think that Israel's 60th anniversary, which is being
celebrated here today, should be a worthy exception.
Israel is a home for many Cz/Bukowina/Transnistria survivors. Many of
them have contributed a great deal to the creation and to the
development of this country. They came from all walks of life and
worked in all possible fields. Only yesterday, Dr Erica Landua, a
Czernowitzer, has lit a Massua (torch) during the traditional
ceremony which marks the beginning of the celebrations on mount
Herzl. Dr Erica Landau established special programs for gifted
children at the Tel Aviv university, amongst her other numerous
activities.

I trust this day has a special meaning for many of our list members.
I wish all of them a happy independence day.
Personally, as a young Israeli, I feel that 60 years of Israeli
existence have no less meaning for me than the celebration of 600
years for Cz.

Danny Alon
