Fiddlesticks !
This theory is based on the fact that you know where the missing object
is and the glass only triggers your memory.
What if you don't know ? Why does it have to be an actual glass,
Just thinking about a glass should work just as well.
I dont believe in the occult.
But superstition is so strongly embedded in our mind , that
it is alive today as it was in the dark ages a thousand years ago.
Even today we take care not to call a needle by its name, we call it
"dus spitzige ". (the pointed one) Because a needle provokes quarrel.
Nor must a needle be passed from hand to hand. It had to be put
somewhere and picked up later. For the same reason.
Salt or worse, pepper spilled on the floor was causing dispute.
A cup of water was always put on the windowsill during a
thunderstorm.
         Against lightning, of course.
And the "Bad eye " was looming at us from every corner.
