Dear Czernowitzers,
I am still having trouble getting the Chernivtsi city authorities
to give us permission to put up a plaque to Traian Popvici.
The stumbling blocks are:
1. Definite evidence of his correct address in Czernowitz.
2. Definite evidence that he saved a certain number of Jews
from being deported to Transnistria.
If one of you living in Israel, could make some phone-calls
to Yad VaShem, contact the appropriate person and ask him/her
to provide Mr. Anatoliy Melnyk <mel_at_rada.cv.ua>
with the needed information, this would be of great help.
Please also ask that a copy of the information sent to Mr. Melnyk,
be sent to me.
I will again write to the Holocaust museum in Washington DC,
for the same information.
Thanks,
Mimi
Dear Mrs.Taylor,
You could perhaps get Popovici's address from the Local Rumanian Cultural
Association when you will be in Cernauti.
They are in opposition to the City Hall.
Another possible source is Yad Vashem (Dr,Angel).
