My grandmother, Pepy HAMMER, originally from Krasnoilsk (near Storozhynets), moved to CZ in 1900 prior to emigrating to Canada. She worked in a restaurant in CZ and was later a caterer for the Yiddish theatre in the Bronx. She was well known for her apple strudel and other Viennese desserts. It seems likely that a menu circa 1900 would include more desserts than just compot.
