Hi Danny!
In the late 60's and early 70's I met many times the writer/psychologist Manes Sperber: he was a close friend of my first family-in-law (Florence Heymann knew him also very well: she describes him as her mentor in her book about Cz). He was born in Kolomea, which is located in Galicia, not far from Cz. In the family, we all used to call him "Muniu".
I believe that this is not a Rumanian, but a Yiddish version of Manes.
Now, of what origin is Manes? Possibly a German name?
Regards,
Charles
