All these are pretty standard Austrian expressions and not just czernowitz
usage. cornel

Subject: [Cz-L] Czernowitz expressions of doubtful origin

Does anyone know the origin of the following Czernowitz sayings:

1. ACH WIE GUT IST NICHTS ZU TUHN UND NACHHER SICH AUSZURUHN
How wonderful to do nothing and then rest from it.

2. ER LIEGT IM GRASS UND SPUKT IN DEN HIMMEL
He lies on the grass and spits into the sky.

3. ER LEBT WIE GOT IN FRANKREICH
He lives like god in France.

Two more sayings were used on particular occasions.

If something fell from above, no matter what it was:

ALLES GUTE KOMMT VON OBEN
everything good comes from above, meaning from God.

If a bird flying above dropped some "blessing" on you:

SEI FROH DASS KUEHE NICHT FLIEGEN

Be glad that cows do not fly.
