At the risk of boring you, here's a medicine story my dad told me a few yea=
rs before he died.
When he was 5 or 6, he suddenly became terrified of horses. This was a seri=
ous matter in 1915/6-as the town was full of horses pulling carts and carria=
ges etc. He wouldn't go to cheder and refused even to go out to play .
My grandmother did not take him to the doctor -what could he do to help? No=
, she took him to a Wunder-Rebbe. The Rebbe sat my father down, covered his =
eyes with his hand and told him to imagine a street with no horses. Then he =
asked him to imagine a little horse coming down the street, who wanted to be=
his friend. And so on, until the imaginary street was packed with friendly =
horses.
Then the Rebbe said a Mishaberach (blessing), took his hand from my father'=
s eyes, and pronounced him cured of a fear of horses. And he was. I don't kn=
ow who the Rebbe was but he was apparently well-known around Cz for his "hea=
ling" skills.

Reading about Dr Wiesenthal was an emotional experience for me. This little=
boy's ear infection in 1942 was massive and may have led to a premature vis=
it with his ancestors but for the good doctor's intervention.
I have not read all of the emails but I wander if we covered clinical medic=
ine.
My Mother assured us that many physiological as well as psychological ailme=
nts are the result of a GITOYK and that the proper clinical treatment of a g=
itoyk (spelled gitoyg) is to recite the following:
Drei vaber zitsen of ein shtein
Eine zugt: siz a gitoyk
Die ondered zugt: nein
Die driter zugt: fin vonen 'siz gekimen, ahien zol es gein
pou, pou, pou (spit three times on the floor)
Three ladies sit on one stone
one says, it is the evil eye
the other says, no
the third says, from whence it came thither should it go
