Dear Mr. Rogovin,
I am a Czernowitzer but during our 2006 Reunion in Czernowitz, I decided to
visit Sadagura together with my son, especially the former Rebbe's well
known synagogue. One can see the ruins and some parts of the once wonderful
synagogue. At the time, it was almost probably a magnificent place, almost a
palace. We found some indications that the place is about to be renovated.
At that same opportunity I also visited the Sadagura Cemetery . It is a
very old cemetery, all the inscriptions on the tombstones are in Hebrew
(Ashkenazi, of course). I was very impressed by the texts, all of them in
Hebrew. Sadly enough, there are many many tombstones on the ground.
The situation there is different than the Czernowitzer Cemetery in Horecza,
where the Czernowitzer Reunion group together with many Jews living at
present in Cz. officiated an Azkara ceremony, with Kaddish prayer and El
Male Rachamim, etc.
Regards, Abraham K.
