This is my adress to the volunteers who come to clean up
the Czernowitz cemetery:
Dear Volunteer,
You come from all the corners of the world to do this wor=
k
of love and show us that you care.
We are not very much used to this attitude.
Actions like this bring back our faith in mankind.
You will be cleanig up the graves of our ancestors and
make the cemetery a place where people can find a
grave.
Today this is not possible.
Some of you may clean up the grave of Eliezer Stei=
nberg
the famous Jewish fabulist.
On his grave there is the opening quote from his Book
of Fables:
" Sad ,children, on this world so big and wide,
With a fable let us comfort ourselves."
The saying is in Yiddish written with Hebrew
letters.
People will tell you that there are ghosts and e=
vil
spirits on the cemetery. Don't believe them.
I hereby solemnly declare :
All the spooky stories of Ghosts on
the cemetery are pure fantasy.
There are no Ghosts there !
Not before the clock strikes midnight, anyway.
And then , they are quite friendly .
They don't harm anybody.
Hardy
