[Cz-L] czernowitz today

Hi all! There are things that mimi and i do not see eye to eye on, but her
comments about today's czernowitz are spot on and aharon appelfeld's comment
at the end of his article that in today's czernowitz there is "nothing to be
found" is just plain wrong.There are still jews living in czernowitz or
chernivtsi, there are streets named after jews,there is rabbi Kofmanski's
very active shul,there is another old synagogue being renovated by another
rabbi, there are blue commemorative plaques in Yiddish and ivrit to famous
jewish czernowitzers, there is a jewish school which as usual for our
schools has a very high reputation so that many non-jewish parents try to
get their children in,there is a jewish museum being set up....I could go
on....and there is something else and that is the effect of our list,of the
Hitachdut olei Bukovina and of the many many Czernowitzers not affiliated to
anything whose visits and activities and input have an effect on today's
situation. And now i shall take a deep breath and sign off!! Best to
