First, I do not have a dog in this fight. My family was expelled to
Transnistria, where I lost my mother. The only person who was not forced
to go to Transnistria from my family was my grandmother. She bribed
(bacshish) an official who let her stay in Czernowitz; she did not have
to wear the yellow star or move in to the ghetto and she kept her business.
I have never heard of Mayor Popovici, till now. I was about 4 years old
when we were expelled to Transnistria and I was about 8 years old when
we returned to Czernowitz. That day is crystal clear to me, I have never
forgotten it.
What makes me laugh are the constant conspiracy theories from people
writing the CZ list.
I want to remind you people, most of us left in 1945 and we have no say
how Czernowitz should be run.
It is their city now.
Even when we lived there we had no say, if you wanted something from the
town hall you had to pay “bacshish” to an official.

I have several pictures of plaques which I took on my last visit, some
have Romanian on them but none have the religion of the person.

Please let Mimi handle the plaque, she is very good at organizing things
and I am sure the outcome will be satisfactory.
