As I remember it the Venetia was sometimes in the 30th baptized Mamaia, but
our parents still called it by the old name. It was on the right side (east)
when coming from the tram end station, and was the bigger and more popular
"Strand". Also in 1944, Bobby, we went there with other friends, Peter,
Jack, Marcel and Oziu, and sometimes swam across the river at the western
point of the old bath facilities. The Gaensehaeufel was a much smaller, but
more elite place - a bit up the river and on the other side of the bridge,
may be between the two bridges (rail and cars).
Crossing the Prut crawl style definitely damaged my swimming style for the
rest of my life, because it included a beat of the water with one foot that
did not go with
a pure swimming technique.
