Re: [Cz-L] Czernowitz street names

I can only interpret the "Svyatoi Trietsi St." as the Russian version of
Dreifaltigkeitsgasse, (Strada Sfanta Treime or Holy Trinity Street) - as to
why it was called that way in the Austrian period I have no idea. May be
your parents were of Russian origin and called it so. That was not an
official name.
The Dreifaltigkeitsgasse is placed in the northern part of Cz. From the
railway station go south at first sharp corner (my mother was born in that
house) to the right. It connects Golowna (Bahnhofstrasse) with
Universitetskaia (Univesitaetsgasse) and indeed starts (Nr.2) from the
border of the Jewish quarter and later the Ghetto.

AS to the Kuerschnergasse, if it is not a misnaming of the
Kutschamarestrasse (from the Austriaplatz =>south to Cuciurul Mare) its
translation from German means furrier, it might be an older name for a later
changed one. In Bukarest there is a str. Blanarilor, named for the same
trade.
