Hi Bruce,

thank you first of all for your kind appreciation. Regarding your request, please note as follows:

"CZ" in the Czernowitz directories Excel files means "Inner city" (no suburb).

You may find "Pruthgasse" (Strada Prutului) on 3 maps available on the Ehpes homepage (map section):
1900CzStreet-low - between railway station and Pruth
1941stadtplan - grid square Ed
cernauti-street - grid square E4

"Schustergeselle" means "cobbler" (most probably as employed person, in contrast to "Schuster" = "cobbler").
"Privatier"
means - literally - "independent gentleman", but it has been used in
Austria for "retired person" and/or "pensioner".

I think you may like to get scans of the directory entries for your great grand uncle, so please find
these scans enclosed for the years 1898, 1909, 1914 and 1924/25 (no entry for Moses Ruff).

Hope, the a. m. data may be useful for you. Best wishes from good old Europe!
