Penitentiary.
The Rumanians called it Penitentiar :a place where you repent.
The Austrians :Gefaengnis.
We called the place : Die Tfisse - in Yiddish . From the Hebrew
"litfoss " -to catch.
The same root as in German : Gefaengnis - fangen - to catch.
Very logic assumption : In order to put somebody in ,you had to catch
him first.
The Russians call the place Tyurma - from Turm -Tower.
In old times most prisons were positioned in or called towers -
take the Tower of London.
I never saw the place from the inside -was too little .
Now they planted a row of trees in the front ,to obstruct the
awe-inspiring appearance.
