Hello again, after a long silence.

First of all, bravo Mimi, brava, brava! Mimi's efforts and our joint
endeavour shows that where there's a will, there is a way! Putting up
the plaque for Popovic is a great achievement considering the problems
or/and "stepping stones" along the way! And maybe the beginning of new
relationships between the new and old Czernowitz,as Mr. Kyllinich's
approach shows.

Of course, the cemetery project is important and dear to all of us, and
it is the first item on the schedule. Since the city is officially in
charge of the cemetery we could really aim at a "joint venture" but
I consider that the city could and should do more for the cemetery's maintenance.

Then again, as we mentioned a long time ago , something should be done
about the historical data on the official page of the City, where there
is still a huge gap regarding the pre-war period, and of course, no mention of the huge contribution the Jews of
Czernowitz made to the cultural , social and economic development of the town
in the 19th and 20th century. This is still an unsolved matter. On the same
line, the minute Jewish Museum should start presenting concrete information about the Shoa
period since it is an integral part of the Jewish history in Czernowitz.

A booklet will be presented at the Leipzig book fair on 15. March, incl
CD, of interviews taken quite some time ago, amongst whom Matthias
Zwilling, Josef Burg, Frau Zuckermann, my mother, etc. Title: "..und das
Herz wird mir schwer dabei..." (my heart aches when I think about it, or
my heart aches when I remember - free translation). I will probably attend
the fair.

You can read about it in Google, under " Deutsches Kulturforum Östliches
Europa", or www.kulturforum-ome.de .

In April, the Jewish community of Berlin, which is made up of about 80%
of Jews from Russia and Ukraine, will present in its programme - "600
Jahre Czernowitz" and speakers will be Lala Süsskind, the President of
the Berlin Jewish Community and Dr. Ilia Meiler, a medical doctor who
has been living here for a long time.

They were officially invited by the city of Czernowitz for the
festivities . The programme will include some music, maybe some klezmer,
I will report about this afterwards.
