In response to Hardy's message and as an apology to all members of the list
and Czernowitzers wherever they may be:
I should have said what Hardy wrote. Now it seems incredible that I did not.
I do not know why I spoke more for myself and my family than for all people
anywhere, Jewish people in general, Jewish Czernowitzers, 19 600 of us who
were saved, even if temporarily, our children, grandchildren and great-
grandchildren, whether already born, or yet to be born.
(Warscheinlich bin ich doch ein Eingebildeter Trottel)
But the plaque is there to tell our tale. People will pass by, read the
inscription and I hope be influenced for the better.
