The only cinema in Czernowitz I definitely remember going to, was the one on
the right side of the Herrengasse as you go up the hill from the Ringplatz.
Was this the Savoy or the Scala? I particularly remember the Foyer in
typical 1930ies style. The first time I visited Czernowitz in 2003, this
foyer was unchanged from the way I remembered it, on my last visit to
Chernivtsi, I could not find the cinema at all. I think that a large store
or bank had taken its place. Just like everywhere else, people are watching
TV and not going to the movies.
Could one of those who know tell where all the cinemas in Czernowitz were
located?
Thanks,
Mimi
