Does anyone remember exactly when the apartment building, on the north side
of the Ringplatz was destroyed? Was it when the Germans were retreating in
the early spring of 1944? There was a loud explosion some time that spring
which was heard all over the city, even to the southern edges of the
Volksgarten and caused windows to shatter. It was said that a truck loaded
with ammunition had run out of fuel and that the retreating German soldiers
set it on fire. Does anyone remember whether this is what caused the
building on the north side of the Ringplatz to collapse?

As far as I can remember the apartment building was still intact earlier on.
It had a row of balconies with ornate metal railings on the second or third
floor which as a child I was particularly impressed by.
