The story of Klara Blum struck a chord. My
Cernowitzer grandmother's brother Konrad
Wiesselberg also left Vienna for the Soviet Union
in the 30's. He died in the purges but his son
survived and in the 1990s emigrated to England
with his family.(More on this story is published
in my cousin Mika Nava's book: Visceral
Cosmopolitanism.)

Only a Czernowitzer would have such a history!
Hardy, Can you tell us how to find the article in German?
Those members of the list who live in Israel and read Yiddish:
The article says that Klara Blum wrote articles for the Yiddish weekly
paper, Die Yiddishe Arbeiter Zeitung of Czernowitz. This paper was publishe=
d
by my grandfather, Saul-Leib Steinmetz. Copies of the paper are archived at
the Zionist archives in Jerusalem and at the central Library in Tel-Aviv.
