The Mehlplatz is a very beautiful square, spacious, open and surrounded by
elegant buildings.
The Mehlplatz was once the Rudolf Platz, or was it the other way around?
I do not know what it was called in Romanian, nor what it is called today.
Am I correct in thinking that in 1944 - 45, it was where people bought and
sold "Alte Schmates, alte Sachen"?

The Theater Platz was once the Elizabeth Platz, which was once the Schiller
Platz, which was once Piata Alexandria, which in my family was called "der
Franzosischer Garten", which is now Teatralna Pl.

The Austria Platz, became the Ghica Voda, now Soborna Square.
I remember it as the market, where we bought vegetables, fruit and in
particular wonderful butter, yellowish creamy white, smelling of red
flowered clover and wrapped in a big Rhubarb leaf.

Nostalgia aside, can anyone tell us the sequential names and uses of all
the squares in Czernowitz?

"Istanbul was once Constantinopolis"

Mimi
