All I remember about Turks in Czernowitz was the Yiddish phrase "A Geleymter
Terk"

A lame Turk - somebody who can't do anything properly. This derives from the historical convention at the end of the 19th century and especially during WW1 when Europe tagged the Ottoman empire as an unreliable ally and generally a total failure.
