When I first joined the list there was a lot of dialogue about food..which
as the granddaughter of a Czernowitzer who carried her heritage with her in
food (among other things) from Berlad to Czernowitz to Vienna and then on
across Europe to NY, I greatly enjoyed. It resulted in the Bukowina Cookbook
Project which can be found on the list website -- an on p. 31-32 is Merle
Kastner's recipe for mailai - which she describes as 'Romanian
Johnnycake'! http://czernowitz.ehpes.com/
