My one set of grandparents came from Willawchia but this grandmother
never, to my knowledge, made mamaliga. BUT, my other grandparents who came from
Iasi, Romania, made it often. I remember that when my Bubby was putting
it on a plate she would cut it with a piece of thread...pour melted butter
and brinza (cheese) on it...there were times that she would make it fleshig
and she would but either potted meat or fricasse on top. To this day I
love mamaliga and the trick is to make it thick and to just turn it out of the
pot rather than trying to scoop it out.
Oh my gosh...I feel like eating it right now...MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
was that good :-)
Lois :-)
