First my humble apologies to Bruce, in my "ode to the GPU", I forgot to
use plain text, mea maxima culpa ! Thanks for Hardy's picture of Kaiser
Franz-Joseph, he's right, I remember my grandfather having tears in his eyes
when speaking of "unser Kaiser". He actually did support the Kaiser, by
joining the army at 45, with 5 children left behind. He came back wilth a "kleine
Tapferkeitsmedaille", I don't remember whether it was silver or bronze.
I would suggest (since I'm not good at it) that somebody should put Joseph
Burg's obituary on view (New York Times, Oct. 7, 2009).
Last but not least, speaking of mamaliga, which we eat very often with
butter, we add sour cream and a special romanian cheese "branza framantata or
branza de burduf".
Finally, in my parents house, when the mamaliga was not properly mixed,
there were some llittle lumps which were called "shikses". No pun intended.
