Davidivka was once Davideni and one need not have a four wheel drive in
order to get there. A few of us, while in Czernowitz for the 2006 reunion,
went there by taxi. My paternal grandfather was born there, one of his
brothers lived there at least till the end of WW1and my great-grandfather
owned the local store. The village may not be much to look at, but the milk
from the local cows, because of the fertile soil and the red-flowered clover
which grows on it, is absolutely wonderful, a real "Taam Gan-Eden"
(heavenly taste).

In Czernowitz, Joseph Schmidt lived next door to the "Tempel" at
Karolinengasse #4, now Zankovetska.
So did the parents or grandparents of some members of this list. Also my
great-grandparents, grandparents and until 1924, my mother.
The great-grandparents left the godless Czernowitz to move back to Borsa and
my grandparents, moved up in society and in elevation to the vicinity of the
Volksgarten.
