Dear all,
I think there is a need to clarify some details regarding the Chassidic
dynasties in our former areas. Reb Yisroel Friedman of Ruzhyn was
considered the founder of the Ruzhiner dynasty; he established his "court"
there, and kept this title until his death in 1851 in Sadagora.. The
founder of the Sadagora Chassidic dynasty was one of his sons, Reb Avrohom
Yaakov Friedman. The "Ruzhyner" was persecuted in the Ukraine, escaped to
Romania and eventually, in 1842, settled in Sadagora. He passed away in 1851
and was buried in Sadagora. In addition to the "Sadegerer court", founded by
Reb Avrohom Yaakov, several of his sons established their own "parallel"
courts and "subsidiary" dynasties: in Boyan, Shtefanesht, Buhush, Chortkov
and Husiatyn.
My maternal grandfather was a devoted Boyaner Chassid and used to visit his
Rebbe in Boyan and also later when the Boyaner Rebbe moved with his Court to
Czernowitz. My father, after he married my mother, became a Boyaner Chassid
at the request of his father-in-law. Every Shabbat and Holiday my father
used to take me and my younger brother to the Boyaner Rebbe's Czernowitzer
court and synagogue. The atmosphere there was usually very festive and
inspiring. I even remember when the Rebbe became very ill in the late 30s,
went to Vienna for treatment/operation and did not manage to survive. He was
buried in Vienna. The whole community of Czernowitz was in deep grief;
Jewish shops were closed for several hours/days.
I hope the above clarifies the confusion created by recently posted
incomplete information.
Regards, Abraham K.

In Czernowitz, I never heard about the Ruzhiner, I did hear about the
Sadagerer and the Wiznitzer rabbis. The later did not perform miracles,
preferring instead to come up with beautiful new "negunim".
The Sadagerer would gladly perform miracles for a fee, but most Yiddish
speaking Czernowitzers knew and sang the song:
Nisim, nisim nisim, nisim ve-neflues,
der Rebbe geyt arein ins wasser ind kimmt arois a nasser".
For those who do not know Yiddish:
Miracles, miracles, miracles, miracles and wonders,
The rabbi goes into the water and comes out wet.
To all you "Apicorsim", this is what it has to do with Czernowitz.
