My father related to me a story about my grandfather, Isidore Tauber,
who grew up in Czernowitz. When my grandfather was a boy he became
friendly with Rabbi Israel Friedman the Sadigurer Rebbe, although my
grandfather's family was not Hassidic. My grandfather had a non-Jewish
friend, the son of a local nobleman, who was a few years older than my
grandfather and who was despondent over a failed relationship. The
friend wanted to visit the "Wunder Rebbe". They visted the Sadigurer
Rebbe, who told my grandfather, "non-Jews get married every day, and so
will this one." On their way back to Czernowitz, a wheel broke on their
wagon. They went for help at the home of a classmate of my grandfather
who lived nearby, and of course my grandfather's friend ended up
marrying the classmate.
