Dear Alfred,
I understand your reaction. Mine was the same. My grandfather was unjustly
arrested and sentenced by the Soviets for being a part of this. The term
Ordnungsdienst" (Jewish Police) was used by the people who were interrogated
as well as the Soviet police who. Unlike other finger-pointing police
organizations, this organization was set up to inform the Jewish Community
of the restrictions set by the Germans/Romanians. Mr. Lehr as acting head of
the Jewish Community was helping to carry out an order by the Governor of
the Boukevina to organize a carry from within the Jewish community. They had
no power other than to inform. I was asking about it because after reading
the testimony from the arrest and conviction record I thought someone might
have known what happened to Mr. Lehr and his family and may have known my
grandfather, Gustav Gedaly.
