Right, as far as I know sometimes in the early twenties all schools changed from German basic to Rumanian. My aunt (born 1905) continued after WWI in German but had her last and may be before last year in Rumanian. At the Matura the teachers were leniant a certain time, but then I think in 1924 everything was Romanized, including primary and secondary teaching.
I remember stories about the teachers' incompetence in Rumanian language and comic situations emerging as a result.
The adaptation from German to Rumanian was not quick and for many of our parent generation the 20 years between the wars were definitely not enough time to get proficient in the new language.
