I was too young for Matura before we escaped from the Soviets but I had many
cousins who did their Matura under the Rumanians and even one who came over
in '46 and did her Matura in Romania. All of them had exams in German and
German Literature. As for the older generation - we know how much the the
Rumanians were "loved" . My father born in 1900 never learned the language
properly and had a secretary for the only purpose to translate his
correspondence with the authorities.
