If you speak of the emancipated newly rich - he was a snob.
 Barnboim would be shunned - Birnbaum adopted.
  Steinbarg would be Steinberg .
    Any association to Yiddish or Judaism avoided.
     The parents ,traditional Jews who lived in the Jewish quarter ,
      rarely visited and then only after nightfall.
    Employ German speaking nannies so that the baby would,
  God forbid, not hear Yiddish ,thus blemishing his perfect German.
     All this, if you were rich.
