Jerry,
Weichsel and Schmetten as in use in Czernowitz belong to East Austrian
German dialect.
These are not particulary Czernowitzer lingo.
If you use them today in Vienna - you will be well understood.
Also Semmel and Kredenz and many many more...
Czernowitz the melting pot of East and West German ,Ruthenian ,Rumanian.
Take the saying :" Chapt sey der Riech" which includes 3 languages -
Chapaty - Ukrainean for catching.
Sey - from German - Sie = them
Riech - from Hebrew Ruah wind but also bad spirit.
In short : "May the Devil catch (get) them !"
