Shalom and Purim Sameah
My name is Aizic (Yitzhak Oked) Sechter and am not ashamed to say that
together with
Bruce Reisch I was one of the founding fathers of this Czernowitz discussion
group.
The main reason you have not heard from me for such a long time I believe
can be blamed
on a number of computer crashes when part of my mailing lists were erased.
One of the branches of my family originated in Sadgora, which is today a
suburb (North-
East) of Czernowitz. The brick wall here is that I do not know the family
name of this
branch.
My great-great grandfather (Unknown Family name) Shmuel Gedalia the son of
Moshe
was born about 1840 and died in 1910. We do not know where he was born but
spent
most of his life in Sadgora. It is where he married Esther (Unknown maiden
name) and
had five children (as far as I know). The oldest Leibaleh Arie was my great
grandfather
dob abt 1863 Sadgora; dod abt 1829 Cliscauti Bessarabia; David dob abt. 1871
Sadgora;
dod abt. 1950 USA; Aaron dob abt 1873 Sadgora; dod abt. 1950 USA; Sofia
Sheive dob
abt. 1875 Sadgora; dod abt. 1945 Romania; Klara Bella Koineh Beileh dob abt
1877
Sadgora; dod May 1956 Bronx, NY. USA;
My Ggrandfather Leibaleh skipped town (Sadgora) so as not to be conscripted
to
the Austria-Hungary military service. He crossed the border into Bessarabia
(Imperial
Russia) settled in a town called Klishkovitz married (Jewish religious
wedding) a local
girl Sheindel Sadovnick (my Ggrandmother) their children received the
maternal
family name of Sadovnick since Leibaleh was an illegal alien and did not
exist in the
records of the Imperial Russian bureaucrats, this is why we do not know
Leibaleh's
family name.
A sister of Leibaleh, Sofia Sheive married a Miller/Mehler from Mamayesti
(abt.
15 miles NW of Czernowitz). This might be a starting point if anyone is
doing a
research on Mamayesti or Miller/Mahler and willing to help me.
One of the daughter's of Sofia Sheive, Sarah emigrated to Brooklyn, NY and
married an Issidore Baum in NY on their wedding certificate Sarah claims
that
her mother's maiden name was Gedalia(s).
Any help from anyone in this group to help me solve this family history and
find some living descendants will be deeply appreciated.
All the best, again, a happy Purim just go easy on the Hamantashen and the
strong beverages.
