Czernowitzers...

Precisely 78 years ago today, on March 13, 1932 the first edition of the Czernowitz daily newspaper "Der Tag" (The Day) has been published. As a "test run" for our German readers (but not only), I've created a new page and will display on a daily basis an selected article out of "Der Tag".

There were many important writers and journalists among the Jews of Bukovina. Numerous weekly and bi-weekly publications gave witness to a lively intellectual activity, which was even able to develop under the Romanian regime. In the year 1932 Arnold Schwarz founded a new daily newspaper, "Der Tag" (The Day), which ceased publication after a few years in the year 1935. Among the prominent writers of the paper were Rose Ausländer and the graphololist Helios Hecht, with whom she lived until 1936, but also the poet Alfred Kittner.

Apropos the economic crisis in the year 1932[?], "today's" (13.03.1932/2010) is headlined:

Universitätsdirektor Dr. Constantin Isopescul-Grecu über den Kollektivismus der Arbeit - Auch Arbeit ist Kapital (Principal Dr. Constantin Isopescul-Grecul about the Collectivism of Work - Workforce is Capital too)

Depending on your feedback, the scheduled one-week-test-run could become a two-years-permanent-institution. We would be pleased to receive your comments, suggestions and questions!
