This is the Berlin Neue Synagogue on The Oraniengurger Strasse.
Bombed out by the Allies in the war, torn down by the German Communists
and rebuilt after reunification. By the Germans of course.
It also houses a museum.
Now to Czernowitz.
We now have boosted- up our motivation .We all agree .
To what ? That the current use of the Temple is a disgrace.
But we dont know what to do . Dont we ?
Jewish community affairs in the Ukraine are handled by the
Jewish Vaad of the Ukraine who sits in Kiew.
The Chairman is Mr. Joseph Zissels who instituted the museum.
His promise to put up a Czernowitz Holocaust Museum at the
Jewish Cemetery Ceremonial Hall is still standing.
He is also trustee - administrator of Jewish abandoned holy places.
He must be adressed for an answer .

Subject: [Cz-L] The Temple
To all concerned
I realise that in the past one had to strugle to get some recognition from
the city and the state about people who brought fame and esteem to the city
of Czrnowitz. Cudos to whoever convinced the authorities about the merits
and they allowed that plaques be placed on walls as remembrances and also
permited the cemetery to be restored.
I would put aside the details and or cost and who should bear it for the
time being.
It appear that there are persons who are or seem to be interested in
furthering the memory of Czernowits. It would not be a bad idea to put out
firstly feelers to the authority or who may be in charge of administering
the Temple and the community house with at first the idea and benefits of
such restoration. Why not know what are their thought and who knows it may
spark some recognition.Does anyone know a person that could be entrusted to
sell the idea to the city and authorities.
I would not waste time in agonising about details and planning at this
stage. Someone already mentioned that the Lutheran church is being restored.
Question how many Germans are in Czernowitz? Yet, it seem to happen. The city
is trying to restore in some way pst Czernowitz as I have seen the murals on
some buildings on the Ringplatz to the right of the Rathaus. I think it is a
worthy cause and worth a try.I also think Germany may try to involve itself
in redemptiong in restoring a building such as the Temple. Do not give up
and have positive thought. We should give it a go. cheers Fred Weisinger
