Czernowitzers must have suffered from two "Mishegasim" (crazes).

One, the fear of drafts, which I remember as well. But I remember it being a
fear of sitting between two doors or windows which were open.

The other, was a firm belief that "Frische Luft" (fresh air) was not only
good for people, but absolutely necessary.

Every morning, no matter whether summer or winter and -20 Centigrade, my
mother world open all the windows and put all the bedding on the window sill
"zum luften". Considering that we burned wood to keep warm and to cook and
coals in order to iron, this was actually quite wise.

I also remember the fear of drafts and that people were convinced that
sitting in a draft would cause a distorted face. "Ein Zug" was feared almost
as much as the "Eyn ha-rah" (the evil eye).
