Who said there were no cars in old Czernowitz ?
Here is to prove the contrary.
There were cars on the streets of Czernowitz !
Not on all streets at the same time ,that is.
Petrol stations I dont recall but you could buy gas in cans at
some downtown shops. There were some Osin hand pumps later .
Water for the radiator and air for the tires were free !
( Even in the Ceaucescu Rumania of 1980 Bucharest, the capital had
only 4 fuel stations with the newly invented air compressors .)
There were no paved roads in the countryside anyway.
In the late 30-ties there were regular bus lines to provicial towns.
The Opel Blitz line with its terminal at the beginning of
Russischegasse,
off the Ringplatz.
