Hi Aizic - This professor says your report is late! Points will be
deducted for each additional day late.

Thanks for "passing the buck" Aizic! There are very few weed-control
scientists left in the University system, but I can check with one or
two. I'll also be contacting a friend who is a specialist in
preservation of Jewish sites in Europe (and who also has Bukovina
roots). But from what I know here are four caveats:
1. Not all herbicides are poisons - except to plants.
2. Some herbicides are acidic and can accelerate erosion of tombstones.
3. Roots systems throughout the soil help to stabilize tombstones;
without the plants and their root systems, the soil become less
stable, more readily eroded, and some tombstones my topple.
4. The "greenest" form of vegetation control is via hand labor. In
a climate with plentiful rain and good soils, even the use of
herbicides is a temporary solution.
When/if I am able to find any additional useful information, I'll get
back to you.
Bruce
