In my family they did use the saying "Was auf der Lunge, das auf der
Zunge". Meaning: What is on your lungs is on your tongue.
The Yiddish version of this is:
"wus oif der ling, oif der tzing".
Another saying for the same purpose was:
Er oder sie legt sich nicht ein Blatt vor dem Mund.
He or she do not put a leaf in front of their mouth.
I wonder whether Czernowitzers were more outspoken than people in other
cities.
My grandfather certainly was; if a customer complained about the
quality of the processed meat sold in his store, he would say:
Did I ask you to come buy my sausage, or Pastrami?
