What have we taken with us when we left Cz. ?
Our memories :
The language,
The songs,
The customs,
The superstitions.
What have left behind ?
The flat,
The house,
The street,
The school,
The cemetery.
On my visit to Cz. I knocked on the door of the flat where I lived
and after some time a weak voice asked : "Kto tze ?" or something
similar meaning : "Who's that ? "
I explained as good as I could who
I was and all I wanted was to have a short look ,and that I lived all
my childhood in that flat- I did this in German and faulty Russian
and after a long pause, again that faint voice : "Kto tze ?".
Frustrated I left the place not before noticing the carving in the
doorsill which read F B for Fredy Breier ,my elder brother who used
to carve on anything wooden.
