Hedwig,
I had discussions on how well they are preserving the Historic City of
Czernowitz.
Some say they are doing a wondeful job .
In my times , all houses were painted in grey. Different shades of grey.
The grey of plaster and stone of walls that have long ago lost their last
trace
of the vanishing paint.
Rarely would you find an exemption.
Now the colours are trendy.
Making the Mehlplatz into the Place de la Concorde is very nice.
They just miss the obelisk.
Many like it better than the square of shabby traders shacks it
used to be .
Again - nice but not Czernowitz.
At the Turkish well they renovated the entire landscape.
An uninitiated old Czernowitzer would hardly recognize the place.
But the current administration are deciding what goes .
And the city appearance will be accordingly.
But we , we have the old images in our mind.
Hardy
