I do not remember the Palace Hotel from my childhood, nor have I paid any
attention to it on my recent visits, but I have a postcard from 1915 on
which it is shown quite clearly. In front of it there is a very tall
memorial column. Does anyone know to whom this memorial was dedicated and
when it was removed?
The current "peach" color of the building pleases me no more than it pleases
Hardy, but in the old postcard, the two upper stories are very dark and the
ground floor is either of stone or made to look like stone.
